Germany willing to assist in developing Smart Cities

Germany agreed to help Nigeria build and develop their urban areas through the Smart City initiative. The agreement took place over a two-day summit organized by the Ministry of Communications in Abuja. Dr. Bernhard Schlagheck, the German ambassador debated such matter regarding the theme, ‘Leveraging on Technology Solutions to Improve the Efficiency in Cities’. The plan is to support Nigeria from the debate stage up to the implementation stage.

Okechukwu Enelamah, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment in Nigeria, mentioned some of the benefits of the Smart Nigeria Digital Economy Project:

  • 88 Billion dollars’ growth to the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
  • Within 10 years, the economy will raise employment level. It is estimated that it will create 3 million jobs within 10 years.
  • Increased security.
  • Expected to decrease in crime rates and violence.

The Smart City initiative is believed that such developments, would increase the standards of living in the country significantly. A step towards growth and sustainability.
