- If you are on a tight budget, first find a flat to share or a non-expensive hotel. Depending on the city you move in, most of the time you will be able to find an affordable place to move in for a short period.

- Once the above are done, start thinking about the efficiency and effectiveness of your method of transportation. In Germany, public transport is excellent and one can get almost anywhere at an affordable price. With that being said, public transport is not always very comfortable. - Health insurance is mandatory for all residents in Germany, so make sure that you are covered. You can choose from public or private insurance. If it gets too complicated, opt for an insurance broker.
- Sort out your taxes before it is too late! Forgetting to pay tax often results to hefty fines.
Open a bank account. There are many banks to choose from in Germany and you can also find ATMs almost anywhere. Keep in mind to always some cash on you as some Germans tend to prefer to get paid in cash. With that being said, do not carry large amounts of cash just in the rare case of being mugged. A little cash to give away in case of emergency can keep the robbers happy and you alive.
